Why Medical Examination?
Its also called an Immigration Medical Exam (IME). Before you enter Canada as a permanent resident, a medical exam is mandatory. To assure IRCC that you are not a threat to the public health. There are several diseases which can spread and can harm the Canadians. However, this medical exam is not so detailed, there are a couple of tests performed and mostly all healthy applicants are able to clear this without any problem. The IRCC Medical examination usually includes following:
- OPD or Physical Examination like heart, lungs, blood pressure and other.
- Urine Tests
- Blood Test for Syphilis and HIV
- Chest X-Rays
Some Facts
- Medical Exams are valid for 12 months (from the day you appear).
- All family members have to appear for Medical Exam.
- It is required even if your spouse is non-accompanying.
- Medical exam has to be from Panel Physician registered with IRCC.
- In some cases, if the PR application is not approved in 12 months, you may get a re-medical request in your Express Entry account, which gives you another 12 months to land.
- One can appear for medicals before or after submitting PR application, however it is recommended to appear before hand. Save extra 25-30 days on final approval.
- To get the list of documents required during Medical Exam, consult with panel physcian's office. Generally, Passport is enough however at some places they ask to bring along recent photographs in case they don't have eMedical service.
- The fee is not regularized by IRCC. So check with panel physician's office.
- Once exam is completed, an acknowledgement is provided which has to be uploaded alongside PR application. No test results are shared with the applicants. And Its not even required. So just Chill.
